Openers.
1) Mark shoves Jane roughly on to the floor. Corners of lips turning up in a sadistic smile, he slowly raises the metallic, shiny object to his chest level.
“BAM!”
2) “Come on, you loser, Parker,” the fattest of the three bullies sneers as his cronies proceed on to delivering punch after punch into random spots on the body of the smallest kid on the block.
“I WILL NOT BE THE LOSER AROUND!” The three bullies whimpers as Parker’s body nears complete transformation.
3) Ben, intent on not being late for school, starts sprinting the moment he gets off the bus.
As he approaches the school gate, he did not notice a piece of watermelon skin, falling heavily on to the floor. As he slowly lifts his face upwards, he sees a face terrifyingly familiar.
4) Daniel reaches for an cookie as he reads the Daily Times. To his shock and surprise, the entire tray of cookies vanishes upon his touch.
5) Fann reaches for an apple while she daydreams of her boyfriend. To her shock, her hand goes through the apple.
6) Liyan chews and swallows with great discomfort, all the while painfully aware of Daryl’s burly and hairy hand which rests snugly around her slender shoulders.
7) Lee grins as he checks his reflection to ensure his hair is neat. After a minute, he straightens up and walks into the mirror, vanishing.
To the horror of all the journalists and reporters, Zoe begins to chant “I swallow” in an eerie manner
9) A single tear trickles down the heavily bandaged face. As Alice fights to hold her tears, she unknowingly tightens her grip on the photo of her and Jake taken during happier times.
10) Sandra sobs quietly as Ben walked away without a backward glance, his back view gradually disappears as he walks towards the setting sun.
11) Romeo swings his sword slices the straw puppet in an unusually vicious move, frightening the watching Juliet
12) The phone rings. It’s Cassandra. Steve answers the phone, only to fall on the ground and writhes and spasms as the virus spreads throughout his body.

Some of your openers are pretty long and tell the whole story. I think Number 4, 5 and 7 are too similar. My favourite is Number 6 – that’s a good opener.
